JEE Main 2027 Overview

  • The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is a national-level engineering entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It serves as the gateway for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes offered by National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), Government Funded Technical Institutions (GFTIs), and other participating institutes across India. JEE Main is also the qualifying examination for JEE Advanced, which is required for admission to the IITs. The examination is conducted twice a year, typically in January and April, primarily in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.

JEE Main 2027 Important Dates (Tentative)

  • Release of notification : November 2026 

  • Registration begins : Session 1 (January) -  November 2026,  Session 2 (April) -  March 2027

  • Last date to apply : Session 1 (January) - December 2026, Session 2 (April) -  March 2027

  • Application Correction Window : Session 1 (January) - December 2026, Session 2 (April) -  April 2027

  • Admit Card release : Session 1 (January) - January 2027, Session 2 (April) -  April 2027

  • Exam Dates : Session 1 (January) - January 2027, Session 2 (April) -  April 2027

  • Result Announcement : Session 1 (January) - February 2027, Session 2 (April) -  May 2027

  • Counselling Process : June 2027

Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification: Must have passed or be appearing in 10+2 (or equivalent) from a recognized board.

  • Subjects Required: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects in 10+2.

  • NIOS & Diploma Holders: Eligible to apply. NIOS students should select their state of eligibility in the application.

  • Age Limit: No age limit specified by NTA, but candidates must meet the age requirements of the institute they wish to join

Application Process

  1. Registration: Enter basic details such as name, guardian’s details, contact number, and email ID.

  2. Fill Application Form: Provide academic information and exam center preferences.

  3. Upload Documents: Upload scanned copies of your photograph, signature, and category certificate (if applicable).

  4. Fee Payment: Pay the application fee online via credit/debit card, UPI, or net banking

Exam Pattern

  • Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT)

  • Duration: 3 hours

  • Sections: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics

  • Question Types:
    Section A: 20 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) per subject
      Section B: 5 Numerical Value Questions per subject

  • Marking Scheme: +4 for correct answer, -1 for wrong answer in MCQs; no negative marking for numerical type questions.

  • Total Questions: 75 (25 per subject)

  • Languages: English, Hindi, and other regional languages

Syllabus

The JEE Main 2026 syllabus is based on NCERT Class 11 and 12 topics:

  • Physics: Laws of motion, Electromagnetism, Thermodynamics, Optics, etc.

  • Chemistry: Atomic structure, Chemical bonding, Organic chemistry, etc.

  • Mathematics: Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, Probability, etc.
