🎓 Programs & Eligibility
B.S. (Hons.) in Mathematics & Computer Science / Physics: * Eligibility: Passed or appearing in Class 12 (or equivalent) with Mathematics as a subject.
Direct Admission: Students with exceptional performance in National Olympiads (Mathematics, Physics, or Informatics) are typically exempted from the entrance exam but must still apply online.
M.Sc. / Ph.D. in Mathematics, Computer Science, or Data Science:
Eligibility: Undergraduate degree (B.A., B.Sc., B.E., B.Tech, etc.) with a strong background in the respective subject.
Ph.D. Physics: * Note: CMI does not conduct its own exam for this; selection is based on JEST scores.
📝 Exam Pattern (B.Sc. Mathematics & CS)
The UG entrance test is a paper-pencil-based exam designed to test mathematical aptitude.
Part A (Objective/NAT): Includes Numerical Answer Type questions and Multiple Choice Questions. This section acts as a screen; Part B is graded only if you meet the Part A cutoff.
Part B (Subjective): Descriptive problems requiring detailed proofs and logical reasoning. This is the core of the evaluation.
Marking: Part A usually carries 40 marks and Part B carries 80 marks (Total 120). There is typically no negative marking in Part A.

Application Fee: * B.S. Programs: ₹1,100
M.Sc. / Ph.D. Programs: ₹1,100 (Single category) or ₹1,300 (Multiple categories)
Exam Centers: Conducted in approximately 37 cities across India, including major hubs like New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Bangalore.
📚 Preparation Strategy
Quality over Quantity: Focus on the Challenge and Thrill of Pre-College Mathematics and Excursion in Mathematics.
Practice Proofs: Unlike JEE, your ability to write a logically coherent proof is vital for Part B.
Past Papers: Solve at least the last 10 years of papers available on the CMI website, as the flavor of questions remains consistent.
Pro-Tip: If you are also applying for the ISI (Indian Statistical Institute) Admission Test, note that the syllabi overlap significantly. However, CMI tends to be slightly more "abstract" and proof oriented.
